Head And Neck
Otolaryngologists are trained to deal with all conditions affecting the head and neck, such as benign and malignant lesions. Cancers originating in the skin, ear, nose and sinuses, mouth, and throat can metastasize to the local neck nodes.
Careful history and examination (both direct and endoscopic) and investigation are essential in the comprehensive treatment of head and neck cancer.
The cure rate for malignancies that are detected early (and are therefore usually early stage) is high in comparison with those detected late.
A high level of suspicion from your general practitioner or health provider is important for early diagnosis and treatment.
Persistent hoarseness, pain in the head and neck, neck swelling, swallowing problems or skin lesions must not be neglected.
